Laborer

A construction laborer is supporting personnel that handles physical labor on construction sites. Laborers may prepare sites by cleaning them, loading or unloading materials and removing hazards. A general laborer may also run some types of equipment, or assist other general tasks assigned on the job site.

Technician / Craftsman / Mechanic / Journeyman

Similar terms to describe more skilled Construction personnel who can work in general construction, or have received training in a specialization. These personnel typically work in building construction and earn most of their skills on-the-job or through a training program. They can work in a variety of construction projects, such as new construction or rehab, and often have general skills in areas such as carpentry, electrical, or plumbing.

Foreman

A foreman typically oversees the work of a designated amount of construction employees and makes sure that all the work is being completed on schedule and on budget.  At the same time, foreman typically also ensure that the current work quality standards are being met or even exceeded. This position is commonly awarded to those having earned their position after working their way up in the ranks in a trade and gaining experience.

Driver

Construction drivers operate vehicles involved in the day to day functions of the job, such as service cars, trucks, forklifts, dump trucks, mixer trucks, asphalt rollers, crew buses and fuel trucks. Drivers require either a standard valid driver’s license and/or Commercial Drivers License depending on the job requirements.
